The blocks came from a quarry that Baron Rothschild established roughly 130 years ago — part of the agricultural and industrial infrastructure he planted across the region. The quarry has been closed for a long time. The stone came up as salvage.
It is warm golden limestone — the kind used to build everything in this part of the world for centuries. Each block is irregular. No two are exactly the same size or shape. The stairs were dry-stacked without mortar: each course set by eye, shimmed until level, held by weight alone.
